Commonwealth Stadium Construction Update: The aluminum seating is approximately 85 percent complete. Wall framing and drywall work on the suites continues on both ends. Both scoreboards have been installed and the video board is up on the east end of the stadium. Preparation work has begun for laying asphalt on the lower concourse.
Both ends of Commonwealth Stadium are being enclosed. The project will add about 10,000 seats, bringing capacity to approximately 68,000. Up to $27.6 million may be spent on the stadium expansion, which is expected to be ready for the opening of the 1999 season.
Watch the Stadium Construction: Fans may view photographs of the stadium expansion on the internet site www.uky.edu/stadium. A camera has been mounted in the press box and is pointed toward the west (Nicholasville Road) end zone. Photographs are updated every five minutes.
John Soward of UK Computing Services handled the technical details of the stadium camera, with assistance provided by Russ Pear, UK Assistant Athletics Director for Facilities, and Chuck Ham of the UK Public Relations Office.
