University of Kentucky head coach Keith Madison will serve as pitchingcoach of the 1999 USA Baseball National Team this summer, USA Baseballofficials announced today.

Madison enters his 21st season as head coach of the Kentucky baseballprogram. His 612 victories are the most in school history and rank himsecond among active SEC coaches. Among his successes in collegiatebaseball, Madison has seen 79 players go on to play professionally,including 15 who have reached the major leagues.

Madison will lead the pitching staff under USA Baseball head coach MarkJohnson. Johnson is the head coach at Texas A&M University. Jerry Kindall,former head coach at the University of Arizona, and Rod Soesbe, head coachat the UNLV, also will serve as assistant coaches.

“It’s an honor to represent our country on the baseball field,” Madisonsaid. “It’s also an honor to work on such a prestigious staff with thefinest coaches in the game. This will be a rewarding and learningexperience for me as a coach.”

USA Baseball is the National Governing Body of amateur baseball in theUnited States and a member of the United States Olympic Committee. Theorganization selects and trains the USA Baseball National Team, the USABaseball Junior National Team (18-under), and the USA Baseball YouthNational Team (16-under) which participate in various internationalcompetitions each year.
