LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 26th-ranked University of Kentucky men’s tennis team picked up its fifth win of the season as the Cats defeated No. 38 South Alabama, 6-1, on Sunday.
UK (5-1) won four singles matches in straight sets to clinch the victory. Freshman Johan Grunditz came back to win in three sets at No. 5 singles, as he defeated Chris Bergues, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. The Cats also won the doubles point, as the No. 1 team of Johan Hesoun and Patrik Johansson defeated South Alabama’s Julien Raynal and Paul McInerney, 8-5, and the No. 2 duo of Carlos Drada and Johan Grunditz outlasted the Jaguars’ Fredrik Mellin and Carl Hesser, 8-5. With the loss, South Alabama falls to 1-7 on the season. Kentucky next sees action when it travels to face Virginia Commonwealth on Saturday, Feb. 27.
