CINCINNATI – Vince Harrison hit his first collegiate home run in hishometown and John Wilson extended his hitting streak to twelve games as theKentucky Wildcats (8-16, 2-7 SEC) defeated the Xavier Musketeers (10-15)Wednesday, 8-7.

UK scored early as shortstop Harrison singled and was driven in bydesignated hitter Robert Newton. The Wildcats added another run in thefourth inning on Wilson’s solo home run onto the street behind the centerfield wall.

Xavier scored one run in the fourth and fifth innings, but never took thelead in the game. The Wildcats manufactured two runs in the fifth inning asthe Musketeers loaded the bases intentionally to face right fielder BreckPrice. Price singled to right field, driving in the two runs.

Kentucky remained unchallenged until the ninth inning. Price moved fromright field to pitcher and quickly loaded the bases, giving up three hitsand two walks. Price settled down, though, and took control, forcingshortstop Jeff Crandell to ground into a double play and snap a three-gamelosing streak for Kentucky, 8-7.

Freshman Aaron Wilson made his first collegiate start for Kentucky, givingup only one run in four innings pitched. Senior Jason Chaney picked up thewin, his second of the season.

The Wildcats return to conference play in the first of a three-game seriesFriday, April 2, at 6 p.m., playing host to the Georgia Bulldogs at CliffHagan Stadium. Saturday’s game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and will bebroadcast on Fox Sports South. Sunday’s first pitch will be at 2 p.m.
