Men's Soccer

The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team had not beaten Vanderbilt in five years, but on Sunday, the Wildcats shattered that streak, topping the Commodores 4-1 at the UK Soccer Complex. The Cats came out quickly, as Lee Baker and Ryan Grady scored goals within the first 12 minutes to give UK a 2-0 lead at the half.

Vanderbilt (5-3) tried to battle back, scoring on a header by Tim Sims in the 48th minute to bring the score to 2-1. The Wildcats were not done, however, as Billy Dwyer and Bryan Mitts tacked on goals in the 62nd and 75th minutes, respectively, to give UK the 4-1 victory.

UK keeper Chris West played an outstanding game, recording eight saves to preserve the win.

With the victory, UK improves to 4-5 and extends its four-game win streak. UK begins Mid-American Conference play on Friday, when the Wildcats travel to Marshall to battle the Thundering Herd at 7 p.m.
