LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team picked up another Mid-American Conference win on Thursday, downing Miami (OH) 3-2 at the UK Soccer Complex.
The Redhawks (4-14, 1-7 MAC) struck first, when Jon Holfinger’s corner kick ricocheted into the net in the 35th minute. UK countered early in the second half when Tyler Cook found the net in the 51st minute to even the score at 1-1. But just 17 seconds later, Miami’s Craig Cochran tipped home a cross to give MU a 2-1 lead.
The Cats would rally once again, as Johnny Hinds’ through-ball gave Ryan Grady a one-on-one with MU keeper Michael Hickey in the 60th minute. Grady’s shot found the net just inside the far post and tied the score at 2-2. Then in the 66th minute, Tyler Cook blasted an Ilkka Jantti cross into the MU goal to give UK the 3-2 win.
With the win, UK improves to 10-8 and 6-1 in the MAC. The Cats hit the field again on Sunday, as Northern Illinois (11-2-1, 5-2 MAC) travels to Lexington for another MAC showdown. It will be Senior Day at the UK Soccer Complex, with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m.
