FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team dropped four “A” flight singles matches on Friday at the Southeastern Conference Fall Championships.

Shannon Stafford, Christy Sigurski and Jackie Spicijaric dropped heartbreakers, as the three Cats fell in three sets. Mandy Carvalho of South Carolina topped Stafford, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 7-6 (4), Georgia’s Christa Grey edged Sigurski, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, and Spicijaric fell 6-7 (6), 6-0, 6-1 to Tara Reid of host Arkansas.

Brooke Skeen was also ousted in first-round action, dropping 6-2, 6-4 decision to Mississippi State’s Linda Mattsson.

In doubles, Sigurski and Spicijaric recovered, teaming to top Rebecca Baum and Kerry Emes of Alabama, 8-2. Skeen and Stafford, however, fell 8-2 to Marianna Eberle and Celeste Frey of Mississippi.

The Cats return to the courts again tomorrow in consolation action.
