LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team got the 1998 campaign underway Sunday, scrimmaging to a 1-1 tie in the annual Blue-White Game at the UK Soccer Complex.

The game was scoreless until the 31st minute, when senior defender Juan Jackson pounded in a rebound from 25 yards to give the White squad a 1-0 lead. The Whites held the lead until striker Michael Stickler took a cross from midfielder Billy Dwyer and powered a header past keeper Chris West in the 73rd minute to tie the game for the Blues. After the game, UK Coach Ian Collins said he was happy with his team’s play.

“I’m pleased with what I saw,” he said. “We still have some things we need to work on, but I feel as the season progresses, we’ll make those adjustments and make things happen.”
