Brungardt Hired as Assistant Strength Coach: Brett Brungardt, a former NBA and collegiate strength and conditioning coach, has been named the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the University of Kentucky football team.
“Brett has coached at the high school, college, and professional level,” UK strength coach Rob Oviatt said. “We are very excited to have his knowledge and expertise of conditioning and nutrition here at Kentucky.”
In addition to assisting Oviatt with the Wildcats’ strength and conditioning, Brungardt will be responsible for all aspects of team nutrition. Brungardt arrives at UK after serving on the board of directors of Strength Advantage, Inc. Brungardt served as a clinician and consultant to member schools and colleges.
He has lectured at more than 100 institutions, covering a spectrum of strength and conditioning topics. He also developed Strength Advantage publications and is co-author of four books in the field of strength and conditioning.
Brungardt worked as the strength and conditioning coordinator for the San Antonio Spurs in 1989-90 and designed an off-season conditioning program for Spurs’ center David Robinson. Before his term in San Antonio, Brungardt served one year as assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Wyoming.
A baseball player in college, Brungardt received his undergraduate degree in business administration at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. He served as the graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach for the men’s and women’s teams at the University of Houston while obtaining his master’s degree in exercise science. It was at Houston that Brungardt and Oviatt first met.
“I’m excited to get back into college coaching, especially at a strong program like Kentucky,” Brungardt said. “Coach Oviatt and I worked together at Houston and it’s great to be back working with him, too.”
