LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky plays host to cross-town rival Transylvania on Sunday, August 30 at the UK Soccer Complex.

The match will be the first head-to-head competition for the two programs, which are separated by only a few miles. Kentucky finished the 1997 season with a 9-12-1 mark, but came within a game of capturing the SEC Eastern Division title with a 6-2 conference record. The Pioneers placed fifth in the national NAIA Tournament to close out their 1997 campaign with a 22-3-1 mark.

The exhibition match should be a battle for the two teams, and will provide the Cats a chance to fine tune their skills for a regular season which begins September 4, when they host Xavier.

“This will be a good opportunity for both teams to work on the rough edges of our games,” Coach Warren Lipka said. “It should be a good match.”

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Admission is free.
