(On Eastern Kentucky)

“We’re not going to approach Eastern Kentucky as a Division I-AA school. This is our first home game. We love playing in front of the home crowd and we’re excited about it. I don’t want any sandbagging by E.K.U. The last time they played a Division I school, they beat Louisville. Coach Roy Kidd is the dean of college coaches and I take him and his team very seriously.”

(On room for improvement)

“Our team has lots of mistakes to improve on. We have some technical things on blocking. Some of our routes weren’t as crisp as they should’ve been. Those will be things that we’ll work on today in practice. Our players are ready to work.”

(On the defense)

“I thought our defense played very well. Louisville had only 10 points when we started to substitute freely, so we were very pleased with that.”

(On Tim Couch)

“I thought Tim Couch played great. I wasn’t surprised by that. I was surprised at how fast we got some of our points. I think Tim’s whole command of the offense is better this year than last.”

(On the receivers)
“I was happy that our receivers played the way they did. I wasn’t surprised, because I see them make those plays every day in practice.”

(On the offensive line)

“Our offensive line did a great job. Kris Comstock and Jonas Liening both did a great job. Jeremy Streck worked very hard in the off-season and he may have had the best game of our offensive linemen. All five did an excellent job. I think that speaks volumes of our offensive line.”

PLAYER QUOTES

# 97 George Massey – Defensive Tackle

(On playing against his cousin Charles Tinsley, EKU Linebacker)

“I have been looking forward to this day. We are more inspired to play. The fact that we are cousins is put off to the side. We are both out there to win.”

(On playing EKU)

“We’re going to go out there and play the same scheme we have been playing. Hopefully we will have a better outcome than we did last week.”

“We expect for Roy Kidd to have them ready to play. We can’t afford to take EKU lightly. They won the OVC last year. We can’t afford to take anyone lightly these days.”

(On preparation for EKU)

“We let the win sink in on Saturday night, but Sunday morning we started getting ready for Eastern.”

(On playing against some former Wildcats)

“I have some friends over at EKU, and they have been saying some things. I can’t wait until Saturday.”

#25 Quentin McCord – Wide Receiver

(On the Louisville game)

“I know that we did not play a perfect game. We have to cut back on penalties. I know that I have to stay in the game mentally. I think each player needs to know the mistakes he made and try to correct them.”

(On sitting out last year)

“The first couple of games I wished that I was out there. I knew I had to come back in the spring and work hard. I’ve been working hard since last spring and I was happy to have a good game.”

(On Tim Couch)

“Having Tim back there puts more pressure on the receiver because you know that he going to put the ball there. You have to be there to catch it.”

#34 Lee Wesley – Linebacker

(On the Louisville game and upcoming EKU)

“We played well but we could have played better. We have to go out this week with the same mentality. We have to take it one game at a time.”

(On playing against former teammates Derick Logan, Tony Woods, Anthony Watson & Stephen Brown)

“You want to go out there and play harder. Playing against them gives the extra incentive to go out there and win.”

#49 Jeff Zurcher – Strong Safety

(On EKU QB Jon Denton)

“I’ve read a lot about him. They say he’s one of the top quarterbacks in the nation. But we respect all our opponents. We just have to prepare for the game.”

(On defensive scheme)

“Our defense is more attack-oriented this year. I think that will make a big difference this season and I think you could see that on Saturday.”

#85 James Whalen, Jr. – Tight End

(On TD catch)

“Tim did the hard part. He made the read and the tough throw. I did the easy part. When I looked up, no one was within 20 yards of me. I was just determined to make it to the end zone.”

(On the Louisville Game)

“We played excellent, we had expectations going into the game and we exceeded them. It was a great opener, the whole team played well, especially the defense and offensive line.”

(On winning)

“Last year we would get ahead, then slack off and allow our opponent to get back in the game, but this year our motto is ‘Sustain the Attack’. We are not going to let up. We just want to keep a constant confidence level and we face a game with a business-like attitude.”
