GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Kentucky men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams combined to set three school records Wednesday at the 1998 Southeastern Conference Championship meet.
The women’s 200 freestyle relay team of Jaime Siegele, Jenny Priester, Rachel Komisarz and Annabel Kosted teamed to post a time of 1:31.99 to finish third in the event. Auburn won the race with an SEC meet record time of 1:30.27.
The UK women also set a school record in the 200 medley relay, as Kosten teamed with Janie Reed, Stephanie Reed and Ellen Strange to post a fifth-place time of 1:43.56. Auburn won the event with a time of 1:38.56, setting a new NCAA, SEC and American record in the process.
Greg Hengel, Aaron Workman, Shaun Zitani and Jarrod Rush combined to give the UK men a school record in the 200 medley relay, posting a seventh-place time of 1:32.04. Workman, Zitani and Rush then teamed with Matt Hampton to record a fifth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:21.42.
The SEC Championships continue on Thursday with the men’s and women’s 50 and 500 freestyles, as well as the men’s and women’s 200 individual medley and the 400 medley relay.
