LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team saw its five-game winning streak come to a close on Sunday, as the Cats fell to eighth-ranked Vanderbilt, 3-2.

UK (8-6-2, 5-3 Southeastern Conference) opened the scoring just four minutes into the game, as forward Brooke Hergesell scored on a penalty kick. But the Commodores’ Laura Koerner evened the score less than a minute a later, when she netted a shot off a cross from Kristen Wolfe. Neither team scored again until the second half. At the 46:13 mark, Vandy’s Katie Piefer scored a goal off an assist from Koerner. The Cats scored again 26 minutes later, when forward Jen McMaster netted a shot off a cross from Emily Oetjen, evening the game at 2-2.

With only six and a half minutes remaining, Wolfe’s shot found an open net for the Commodores, giving them the 3-2 victory. With the win, Vanderbilt improves to 12-4 overall, 6-2 in the SEC, giving them sole possession of the No. 2 spot in the East. UK drops to No. 3 in the SEC East.

The Cats next see action on Wednesday, Oct. 28, as they hit the road to face Dayton.
