BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The 24th-ranked University of Kentucky women’s tennis team recorded its fifth straight win as the Wildcats downed Indiana 7-2 Saturday. UK (13-5, 4-5 SEC) swept the doubles matches and won four singles matches to secure the victory.
UK’s Massoumeh Emami defeated Correne Stout in the No. 1 singles match, 7-6(8), 7-5. No. 3 singles player Kathy Herring, who transferred from Indiana to Kentucky, beat Megan McCarney 7-5, 6-2. Christy Sigurski and Brooke Skeen also secured wins for the Wildcats, winning at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
UK’s 24th-ranked doubles team of Emami and Kelly Brown bested Stout and Kelly Blanch, No. 36 in the country, in the No. 1 doubles match, 8-6. The Wildcat due of Sigurski/Skeen defeated Kelly Fitzgerald and Becky Wallihan, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles, and UK’s Herring and Caroline Kirk outlasted Jessica Anderson and Christy Sharp, 9-8, at No. 3. With the loss, the Hoosiers drop to 8-8 on the season. The Wildcats next see action on Saturday, when they host 17th-ranked Vanderbilt at noon at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center.
