The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team will play its third game in eight days when the Wildcats travel to Athens, Ga., to face No. 24 Georgia on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats (11-12, 4-7) are looking for their third straight conference victory after having defeated Auburn and South Carolina last week. Juniors Jaye Barnes and Tiffany Wait continue to lead UK in scoring, averaging 14.3 and 11.5 points per game respectively. The forward/guard duo has scored 215 of the Wildcats’ 449 points in the last six games (47.9 percent). Barnes and Wait have either led or co-led UK in scoring in 17 of UK’s 23 games this season.
“I feel we are getting better with every game,” Wait said. “If we can go out and execute like we did against South Carolina on Sunday then we can defeat Georgia on their home court.”
Georgia’s dynamic duo this season has been twin sisters Kelly and Coco Miller. The freshman forwards average 18.2 and 17.6 points respectively and lead the Lady Bulldogs (14-8, 5-5) in almost every statistical category. K. Miller led four Lady Dogs in double figures on Sunday with 20 points in their 90-77 loss at Alabama.UK Coach Bernadette Mattox, who played two seasons under Georgia Coach Andy Landers, was the Lady Bulldog’s first All-American and first Academic All-American in women’s basketball. She hopes to capture her first win at Georgia after dropping the last two games to her alma matter. UK has not defeated Georgia in Athens since Jan. 23, 1994 when the Wildcats pulled off a one-point victory 71-70. -UK-
