LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky volleyball team (7-3) won its opening game of the Kentucky Conference Challenge Friday when it handed Arkansas State (4-5) its fifth straight loss, winning in three games, 15-10, 15-9, 15-11 in UK’s Memorial Coliseum.
The Wildcats were led by senior middle blocker Jenny Muzzey, who recorded 16 kills and five digs with a .429 hitting percentage. Junior Katie Eiserman had another impressive match, racking up 13 kills and six digs on the night.
“We did the things we needed to do to improve,” UK coach Jona Braden said. “We stayed focused, kept pushing and believed in our game and this was a complete team effort.”
ASU was led by junior Beth Cochran with 11 kills and a .304 hitting percentage in the match. Senior Lyndsay Miller also put up solid numbers in the loss, recording nine kills and six digs against the Wildcats. The Kentucky Conference Challenge resumes Saturday with Clemson (6-2) taking on ASU at 10 a.m. followed by Kentucky battling Southern Methodist (7-3). In the evening wrap-up, it will be SMU facing ASU at 5 p.m. and Kentucky takes on Clemson in the final match of the tournament at 7 p.m.
