LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team will square off against its third top-10 opponent of the season when it plays host to the fifth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday, Feb. 28. The Wildcats (4-2, 0-2 SEC) are coming off two straight wins, but still seek their first Southeastern Conference victory. No. 2 singles player Kathy Herring has lost only one match so far this season, and UK’s No. 1 doubles team of Massoumeh Emami and Kelly Brown also brings a 5-1 record into the match.
Georgia (5-1, 0-0 SEC) features two of the nation’s top singles players in No. 2 Marissa Catlin and No. 23 Vanessa Castellano, who also team up to form the nation’s fourth-ranked doubles team. The Bulldogs’ only defeat of the season came at the hands of top-ranked Stanford, which dominated UGA 5-2 on Feb. 21.
Georgia won both meetings with Kentucky last year, including a 5-1 win in the SEC Championships.
The match also reunites UK coach Mark Guilbeau with the team he assisted for five seasons before coming to Kentucky. In addition, first-year UK assistant Michelle Anderson was an All-American at Georgia and a member of the No. 1 doubles team in the nation before graduating in 1997.
