The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team claimed anotherMid-American Conference win in its regular season finale on Sunday,topping Northern Illinois 2-0 at the UK Soccer Complex.
Brent Rainey provided the Cats’ offense, scoring two goals, andthe stingy UK defense held the high-powered NIU attack scoreless. UKgoalkeeper Chris West recorded two saves as the Huskies were shutout foronly the second time this season.
With the win, UK improves to 11-8 and 7-1 in the MAC. UK alsofinishes the regular season as MAC runners-up and clinches a No.2 seedfor next week’s MAC tournament.
The Wildcats return to action on Friday against a yet to bedetermined MAC opponent in the conference tournament. The tournamentwill be held at the UK Soccer Complex and kickoff for Friday’s game isset for 8 p.m.
