AUBURN, Ala. — The University of Kentucky volleyball team improved its record to 14-7 on the year, Friday night, after defeating the Tigers of Auburn (15-6, 4-4 SEC) in four games, 3-15, 15-9, 15-7, 15-13.
Kentucky struggled early as Auburn jumped out on top with a 7-0 run in the first game of the match, but the Wildcats bounced back to take games two and three from the Tigers. The SEC rivals battled point-for-point in game four, as the Wildcats posted an 8-0 run to overcome an early 0-6 deficit to take the final game, 15-13.
Kentucky was led by junior outside hitter Katie Eiserman with her eighth double-double of the season with 13 kills, 15 digs to go along with her .423 hitting percentage on the night. Junior middle blocker Jaclyn Homan chipped in six block assists and four kills in the winning effort against the Tigers, while senior LaTanya Webb had another big night, notching 11 kills, seven digs and three block assists.
“That was a struggle, but a great win,” UK coach Jona Braden said. “We stayed so focused and worked hard to play our game and that’s what won the match.”
Auburn was led by Brooke McCarley with 19 kills and two block assists against the Wildcats. Jaunelle Hamilton posted 14 kills, four digs and four block assists in the loss.
UK returns to SEC action on Sunday when it travels to Tuscaloosa to take on the Crimson Tide of Alabama (11-10, 4-3 SEC). The Wildcats return to Lexington on Nov. 1, when they take on the Lady Vols of Tennessee at 2 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum.
