INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Kentucky volleyball team (6-2) took first place in the Doubletree Guest Suites Classic Saturday by defeating Kansas 16-14, 15-7, 16-14 and host Butler 15-7, 13-15, 15-5, 15-7.
Junior Jaclyn Homan led the charge for Kentucky in the afternoon match recording six digs and 13 kills with a .647 hitting percentage. Seniors LaTanya Webb and Jenny Muzzey also had solid performances, notching 12 and 10 kills, respectively, against the Jayhawks.
In the evening match with Butler, the Wildcats were led by senior outside hitter LaTanya Webb with 14 kills and six digs. Freshman April Barnhorst, in only her second collegiate appearance, recorded four kills and three block assists against the Bulldogs. Katie Eiserman recorded a double-double, notching 12 kills and 12 digs on the night.
“WE did it,” UK coach Jona Braden said. “We really wanted this win and we worked really hard. The players pulled together and it was a true team effort.”
Juniors Jaclyn Homan and Katie Eiserman were named to the All-Tournament team, along with tournament MVP LaTanya Webb. The Wildcats return home to face Western Kentucky on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum.
