CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of Kentucky men’s and women’s swim teams are in contention after the first day of competition at the 13th annual Nike Cup.

The women stand in third place with 187 points, trailing first-place Clemson at 368.5 and host North Carolina at 233. The men are in sixth place in the 11-team competition with 88 points. North Carolina tops the men’s leader board with 341 points.

Rachel Komisarz picked up a win in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:44.74. With that time, Komisarz automatically qualifies for the NCAA Championships in March.

The competition continues tomorrow and concludes on Saturday.
