The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team defeated Eastern Kentucky, 87-47, in Richmond on Tuesday, charting its 17th overall win for the first time since finishing 17-11 in 1993-94. The Wildcats (17-9, 6-7 Southeastern Conference) dominated the entire game versus the Lady Colonels (11-13, 8-8 Ohio Valley Conference), leading 39-15 at the half. UK allowed only 18 EKU baskets in the entire game, holding the Lady Colonels to shoot 18-of-55 from the floor. The Cats hit 31-of-65 from the field for 47.7 percent as Tiffany Wait led the Cats with 15 points and Laura Meadows netted 12 points. Twelve of the 13 players scored for Kentucky as the Cats played their last regular season road game. “We played well defensively tonight,” UK Coach Bernadette Mattox said. “We worked on our transition game and our defense in practice this week and it paid off. I’m very proud of our kids and their performance tonight.” Three Wildcats charted career-highs versus EKU as junior Erica Jackson recorded a career-high 10 steals while freshman Tanesha Seaton and junior Rae Keith posted six points apiece for career-high points. Charlotte Sizemore led EKU in scoring with a game-high 16 points while Cathy Dues followed with eight points.

The Cats lead the series with Eastern Kentucky 21-8 and holds a two-game winning streak versus the Lady Colonels. UK will play host to South Carolina in its last regular season home game on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum. The Cats will honor lone senior Jaye Barnes in Senior Day ceremonies and will give a away $500 in a random drawing.
