Couch, Yeast, Comstock Chosen to Preseason All-America Team: Quarterback Tim Couch, wide receiver Craig Yeast, and offensive tackle Kris Comstock have been named to the preseason All-America team chosen by the College Sports News internet service.
Couch was selected for the All-America second team while Yeast and Comstock were honorable mention All-America choices.
Couch, a junior from Hyden, Ky., completed 363 of 547 passes for 3,884 yards and 37 touchdowns last season. He led the nation in passing attempts, completions, completion percentage, and yardage. He broke or tied 17 school records and 10 Southeastern Conference records.
Yeast, a senior from Harrodsburg, Ky., caught 73 passes for 873 yards and 10 touchdowns. He led the SEC in receptions per game and was second in the league in touchdown receptions. He also averaged 23 yards on kickoff returns and 15.6 yards on punt returns and had a return for a TD in each category.
Comstock, a senior from Apopka, Fla., has started the last 20 games during the 1996 and 1997 seasons. At 6-8, 314 pounds, he has excellent size for a pass blocker and he blossomed last year in UK’s “Air Raid” offense.
George Harris Update: Former Wildcats defensive back George Harris is playing for the England Monarchs of the NFL Europe league. At the halfway mark of the season, Harris has been credited with nine tackles and one pass breakup.
