The University of Kentucky women’s tennis doubles team of Massoumeh Emami and Kelly Brown have won the consolation tournament at the All-American Championships.

Emami and Brown downed 13th-ranked Kristi Dascoli and Brianna Harris of Ohio State, 6-3, 6-0, to reach the finals, and in the championship match, the tandem ousted ninth-ranked Meg Griffin and Loraine Bittles of Maryland, 6-3, 6-2.

After falling in the tournament’s main draw, the duo won three matches in the consolation bracket to claim the title.

“This is a big deal for Kelly and Massoumeh,” Coach Mark Guilbeau said. “The All-American is one of the four Collegiate Grand Slam tournaments and they beat some strong teams in consolations to get this win.”
