LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky gymnastics team defeated Auburn andPennsylvania en route to its first Southeastern Conference win of theseason. The Kats (9-8, 1-4 Southeastern Conference) posted a 195.250 toAuburn’s 193.300 and Pennsylvania’s 189.325.

Freshman Jennifer Simmons won the all-around competition with afinal score of 39.375. Junior Krissy Hoeferlin finished third inall-around with a final score of 39.275.

The Kats won the balance beam portion of competition with a season-high48.775. Junior Krissy Hoeferlin set a new career-high on balance beam witha 9.825. Freshmen Jessie Lemp and Jennifer Simmons also set season-highs,both with 9.850. Another UK junior Mila Chitwood posted a season-high onbalance beam with a 9.800.

Hoeferlin tied a career-high 9.900 on floor exercise and Simmonsposted a new season-high with her 9.850 performance.

Freshman Jennifer Simmons posted her first career 10.0 from ajudge in route to a final vault score of 9.975 and first place in vault.Hoeferlin finished second with a score of 9.900. Senior Shawnte Hallfinished third with a score of 9.875.

“We came out tonight and preformed really well on three events andI couldn’t be happier,” Coach Leah Little said. ” It has meant so much forus to have Krissy back in all-around and Jennifer did an outstanding jobtonight. I really feel like we are 100% going in to the SEC Championshipsnext weekend.”

The GymKats return to action on Saturday, March 27 when theycompete in the 1999 SEC Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
