WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind –The University of Kentucky volleyball team (2-0) remained undefeated on the season Friday as they defeated Alabama-Birmingham 12-15, 2-15, 15-12, 15-9 in the first match of the Mortar Board Purdue Premiere Invitational Tournament.
The 3-1 victory was the 500th win for the Kentucky volleyball program.
After falling to the Blazers in the first game, the Wildcats roared back with a 10-0 run to start the second game of the match. Junior Katie Eiserman and sophomore Stephenie Taylor each recorded four kills in the game to lead Kentucky.
“This was an absolute team effort,” UK Coach Jona Braden said. “Collectively, individuals stepped up to the plate and did what needed to be done.”
The Wildcats were led offensively by senior LaTanya Webb and junior Jaclyn Homan with 19 and 18 kills, respectively. Junior setter Terri Crabb notched a match-high 60 assists.
Kentucky will face Central Florida Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and compete in the tournaments final match against host-team Purdue at 7:30 p.m.
