The No. 1 doubles team for the University of Kentucky women’s tennis team was selected to participate in the 1998 NCAA Tournament. The 15th-ranked duo of Massoumeh Emami and Kelly Brown will compete at Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., May 21-29.

Emami and Brown have claimed five wins over teams ranked in the top 50 this season, and have compiled a record of 16-3 overall, 7-3 in the Southeastern Conference. The pair was named All-SEC in doubles and are the first players chosen from UK since 1993. In addition, Emami and Brown are the first UK players selected for the individual tournament since 1995. “This is a great step for the two of them as individuals and for our entire team,” UK head coach Mark Guilbeau said. “It takes a dedicated and committed group working together for these types of goals to be achieved.” The UK team will play in the regional competition May 15-17. UK is the No. 2 seed in the East Region, which will be played at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Va.
