LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the first time in two weeks the University of Kentucky women’sbasketball team will meet an opponent at home when it plays host to No. 18Alabama on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m.

The Wildcats (12-6, 2-4 Southeastern Conference) return to MemorialColiseum after an impressive 69-56 win over Louisville on Wednesday. UKended its four-game road series with a 1-3 record after falling to OleMiss, LSU and top-ranked Tennessee last week.

The Cats are hoping for their first win over the Crimson Tide (12-5, 2-3)since winning 77-73 on Jan. 31, 1993. Alabama leads the overall series12-8, but the series is tied 4-4 when playing in Lexington.

All-America and All-SEC candidate Dominique Canty leads UA in scoring thisseason, averaging 19.9 points per game. Canty is ranked second in the SECin scoring behind Tennessee’s Chamique Holdsclaw. She led the Tide with 25points and seven rebounds in last season’s 62-56 win over Kentucky inTuscaloosa, Ala.

“Obviously we have go to concentrate on Dominique, but they have threeguards that are hard to defend,” UK Coach Bernadette Mattox said. “We justhave to play our game and step up our intensity.

Junior guard Tiffany Wait, who leads UK in scoring with 13.3 points pergame, needs just two points to score her 1,000th point as a Wildcat. Shewould join 20 other Wildcats on the all-time scoring list with 1,000 ormore points.

The first 300 fans will receive free mini-balls.
