LEXINGTON, Ky. – Ben Shaffar had eight strikeouts in seven innings and John Wilson belted his sixth home run of the season, but Kentucky (3-8, 0-0 SEC) could not overpower Indiana, losing their second straight game, 7-2. The Hoosiers (8-1) scored in the top of the first inning. Second baseman Benji Clause had a leadoff single and advanced to third on pitcher Ben Shaffar’s pick off attempt. Clause scored on first baseman Chris Wilson’s RBI ground out.

The pitchers dueled for the next six innings until the Wildcats scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. First baseman Aaron McGlone reached base on one of his four walks of the day. Wilson scored McGlone on his two-run home run over the left field wall to give Kentucky the lead, 2-1. The Hoosiers answered with four runs in the top of the eighth inning to take the final lead. Reliever Omar Henry (0-1) took the loss, giving up three of the four runs scored in the inning. Pitcher Josh Paxton gave up two additional runs in the ninth inning. McGlone extended his hitting streak to six games and junior Breck Price has reached base safely in five consecutive games. Junior Ben Shaffar’s eight strikeouts in today’s contest improved his season total to 36 in 27 innings pitched.

Kentucky will be back in action Tuesday, March 9 at 3:00 p.m. and Wednesday, March 10 at 3:00 p.m., facing Eastern Michigan, before opening Southeastern Conference play against Vanderbilt next weekend.
