LEXINGTON, Ky. – In his second season at Kentucky, Mo Muhammad was named 1999 Southeast Regional Assistant Coach of the Year, it was announced today by the NCAA.
Nominated by Head Coach Leah Little, Muhammad won the award by a vote of all head coaches in the Southeast Region.
“Itis a great honor to win this award that was voted on by my peers,” Muhammad said. “I really enjoy my job and this award only compliments the joy I feel about coaching and the sport of gymnastics. “
Muhammad came to Kentucky in 1997 after coaching at the club level for over 18 years. Prior to coming to UK, Mo was a coach at Giziis Gymnastics in Houston, where he coached current GymKat Jessie Lemp in her club days. Muhammad also coached current Kats Jennifer Simmons and Natalie Hunt during his work at Lobo Gymnastics.
“This award is really exciting for the program and for Mo,” Little said. “This award will help take our program to the next level. His excellent assistance helps me to do my job better. I think Mo epitomizes what every head coach looks for in an assistant, in all areas, not just the gym.”
Robert Dillard, Auburn head coach, was named Southeast Regional Head Coach of the Year and Alabama freshman Andreei Pickens was named Southeast Regional Athlete of the Year.
