LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Mississippi State Bulldogs (22-4, 5-3 SEC) led an offensive attack andheld Kentucky (7-15, 2-7 SEC) to only one hit through seven innings as theydefeated the Wildcats, 11-6, to take the series.
Brian Wiese opened the game with a solo home run to give Mississippi Statean early lead and the Bulldogs never looked back. Mississippi State addedone run in the fourth inning on Jon Knott’s fielder’s choice. Three runsscored in the fifth inning, knocking UK starter Brandon Webb out of the game.
Kentucky rallied in the late innings. Held scoreless until the seventh,the Cats scored three runs in the inning. Beau Moore and Aaron McGlonewalked and scored on John Wilson’s RBI double. UK added three more runs inthe eighth inning as four consecutive hitters singled.
Mississippi State scored two runs in the ninth inning to put the game outof reach and beat Kentucky, 11-6.
Two Wildcat hitters kept their hitting streaks alive in this weekend’sseries. John Wilson currently has a ten-game hitting streak, and KyleHooker has reached base safely in five consecutive games.
UK returns to action Tuesday, March 30, at 3 p.m., traveling to Richmond,Ky., to take on the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky.
