LEXINGTON, Ky. – Luke Williams ignited a five-run eighth inning for Louisville with a two-run homer as the Cardinals beat Kentucky 10-5 Tuesday evening at Cliff Hagan Stadium on the UK campus.

All five runs in the eighth came off UK reliever Aaron McGlone. McGlone entered the game trailing 5-4 before allowing five hits and five runs in 0.2 innings of work. Jon Hooker and Patrick Mahan finished the game for the Wildcats. UK starter Ben Shaffar gave up four hits and four runs in four innings of work before giving way to a pitch count. Shaffar had a career-high six strikeouts. David Cheatle (2-3) picked up the loss for the Wildcats in three innings of relief.

With a crucial conference series ahead at St. Louis, Louisville used six different pitchers. Sean Green (2-3) earned the victory in 3.1 innings of work. Green scattered two hits and allowed one run. James McAuley and Key Voshell had two hits apiece for the Cardinals. UK’s Jason Colemire, John Wilson and Andy Bendix each connected on a home run. It was Bendixis team-leading 12th homer of the season. UK broke the schoolis single-season doubles record with Mark Murphyi’s double in the fourth inning. It was the Wildcats 133rd of the season, surpassing the previous mark set in 1994.

UK is back in action on Wednesday at 6 p.m. against Cincinnati at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
