In a match that went down to the wire, the University of Kentucky men’stennis team upset 18th-ranked Mississippi State, 4-3, at home on Saturday.
The Cats (12-6, 5-3 Southeastern Conference), playing their sixth match in10 days, won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. But theBulldogs (8-9, 2-5 SEC) came back to lead the Cats 3-2 after winningmatches at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles. UK’s Johan Grunditz then pulledout a 6-2, 7-6, victory at No. 5 to even the score. Wildcat Edo Bawono thendefeated Mathieu Soto, 6-7, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 5 singles to give UK the 4-3victory.
The Cats next see action when they travel to Vanderbilt on April 6.
