The University of Kentucky baseball team (0-0, 0-0 SEC) will open its 1999 season this weekend with a three-game series against Florida Atlantic (3-0) in Boca Raton, Fla., Feb. 12 – 14. The season opener on Friday is set for 7 p.m.

This marks the second meeting and second season opener for UK against the Owls of FAU. The Wildcats traveled to Boca Raton in 1996 and lead the all-time series, 2-1.

“In many ways, I feel like our team is more prepared this year for our opening game,” said Keith Madison, who enters his 21st year as the head coach of the Kentucky baseball program. “But there’s always an unknown factor when you compete against an opponent for the first time in a new season. I have every confidence that our team will play hard and aggressive baseball. We know we’ll have to play harder, because Florida Atlantic is better prepared, having already played some games this year.” Florida Atlantic won three games over Bethune-Cookman last weekend in Boca Raton.

UK begins a three-week road trip for UK to open the ’99 season. The Cats play host Tennessee Tech in their home opener at Cliff Hagan Stadium on March 3 at 3 p.m.
