LEXINGTON, Ky. – Erica Jackson scored 20 points and handed out seven assists as Kentucky defeated No. 18 Alabama 76-72 Sunday, the Wildcats’ first victory in six years over the Crimson Tide.
LaTonya McDole added 16 points, Shantia Owens 12 and Tiffany Wait 10 forKentucky.
Kentucky (13-6, 3-4 Southeastern Conference) outrebounded Alabama (12-6,2-4) 51-36, resulting in 14 second-chance points. The Wildcats also had a huge advantage at the foul line, making 25-of-35 free throws to 15-of-19 by the Crimson Tide.
Dominique Canty led Alabama with 24 points and nine rebounds. Latrish Jones added 12 points, Beth Vice 11 and LaToya Caudle 10.
Kentucky led 38-35 at halftime despite shooting only 29 percent from thefield. The Wildcats negated the poor shooting by making 14-of-20 shots from the foul line.
Kentucky improved to 50-percent shooting in the second half and made11-of-15 foul shots while the Crimson Tide shot 37 percent and went to the line only seven times.
