The University of Kentucky men’s golf team is preparing to tee-off at the Marshall Invitational Golf Tournament in Huntington, W.Va., Friday. This 54-hole event will take place at the Guyan Golf & Country Club and run from April 10-11. Tee time begins at 8:30 a.m. on Friday with 36 holes of play, followed by the final 18 holes on Saturday beginning at 7:30 a.m. The course measures 6,456 yards from the championship tees. Competing for the Wildcats this time out will be senior Mike Cassity, junior Chris Mueller, sophomores Ron Layman and Wes Furnish and freshman newcomer Jay Knight.

The 20 participating teams in the Marshall Invitational are as follows: Akron, Ball State, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Marshall, Miami (Ohio), Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Murray State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ohio University, Toledo and Wisconsin.

Kentucky competed in last year’s Marshall Invitational and placed ninth out of 18 teams with a team score of 903. Senior Ryan Loghry was the top UK finisher, tying for 22nd place, with an individual score of 223. Kentucky won the tournament in 1978. Steve Flesch was Kentucky’s only individual champion, in 1988, with a score of 213. UK finished in second place that year.
