LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky rifle team split its opening weekend with a win against Ohio State on Saturday and a loss to Murray State on Sunday.

In its season opener, Kentucky shot a combined score of 6132 to OSU’s 5976. The Cats fired a 4598 in small bore and a 1534 in air rifle, while Ohio State shot a 4482 in small bore and a 1494 in air rifle.

On Sunday, the Cats fell to Murray State in a close match. Murray State finished with a combined score of 6151, while UK came in close behind with a 6136, Murray State shot a 4627 in small bore competition and a 1524 in air rifle. The Cats fired a 4608 in small bore and a 1528 in air rifle.

On Saturday, UK seniors David Fowler and Darren Fowler shot personal bests in air rifle competition with an 1174 and an 1160, respectively. The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday, October 24 as they travel to Alabama to take on Jacksonville State.
