The University of Kentucky track and field teams have begun competition at the 1999 NCAA Championships at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho.

UK sophomore Ola Sesay finished sixth in the women’s long jump finals with a jump of 6.40m. Trecia Smith from Pittsburgh won the event with a jump of 6.61m.

In men’s action, UK sophomore Jeff Ellis competed in the preliminary 400-Meter Hurdles event and finished fourth in his heat, and did not qualify for Fridays final.

Competition continues on Friday, when sophomore Shevan Threats competes in the finals of the womens triple jump.
