This Week in Kentucky Football: June 14-20

Players in Summer School, Workouts: The eight-week summer schoolsession began June 10. The majority of the players will be in Lexingtonduring the eight-week session in order to work out in the weight room,work summer jobs, and/or take summer school classes. The eight-weekperiod ends on August 5.

Coaches Working Camps: The Kentucky football coaching staff isworking the UK summer football camps through June 27.

Mumme Speaking Engagements in Louisville, Pikeville: Coach HalMumme has speaking engagements this week in Louisville and Pikeville.

Mumme will speak to the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Louisville onthe evening of Monday, June 14, at the Louisville Gardens.

Mumme will speak to the Pikeville Chamber of Commerce on theevening of Thursday, June 17.

Commonwealth Stadium Construction Update: Construction crewshave completed the installation of structural steel and most of theconcrete work on the upper concourses is complete. The aluminum seatingis approximately 75 percent complete. Wall framing and drywall workcontinues on both ends. Precast concrete panels have been installed onthe east end and are in progress on the west end. Work also has begunon the installation of the scoreboards.

Both ends of Commonwealth Stadium are being enclosed. Theproject will add about 10,000 seats, bringing capacity to approximately68,000. Up to $27.6 million may be spent on the stadium expansion,which is expected to be ready for the opening of the 1999 season.

Watch the Stadium Construction: Fans may view photographs of thestadium expansion on the internet site www.uky.edu/stadium. A camerahas been mounted in the press box and is pointed toward the west(Nicholasville Road) end zone. Photographs are updated every fiveminutes.
