Twelve-team 54-hole tournament begins Friday.

LEXINGTON, Kty. — The Lady Kats golf team will compete in the 1999 SEC Championships at Opelika, Ala., this weekend, April 16-18. All 12 teams will compete in the 54-hole tournament at the Grand National Lakes Course, a par-72, 5,924-yard track.

Kentucky will tee off with Arkansas and Vanderbilt beginning at 8 a.m. Friday morning. The top five golfers from each team will participate for medallist honors.

At last year’s tournament, Kentucky finished 11th while Georgia captured the title. Junior Jenny Dugan tied for 24th place and sophomore Jenny Throgmorton finished 59th. UK’s highest finish at the SEC Championships was second in 1986.

This is UK’s final scheduled tournament. The Lady Kats will compete at the NCAA East Regionals in Columbia, S.C., if any individual or the team qualifies for competition at the SEC Tournament.
