GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Kentucky volleyball team moved to 12-6 on the season and 3-2 in the SEC after falling to No. 9 Florida, Friday night in three games, 12-15, 6-15, 7-15.
The Wildcats were led by senior outside hitter LaTanya Webb, who recorded 11 kills and a .280 hitting percentage on the night. Freshman setter Whitney Sample had another solid performance, tallying 32 assists and five digs against the Gators, while fellow freshman Meghan Stout recorded six digs and two service aces in the match.
“I was very pleased with our effort,” UK coach Jona Braden said. “We stayed focused and kept each other in the match. We just weren’t able to do the little things we needed to do in order to win.”
Florida moved to 14-2 on the year and 5-0 in the SEC with the win over the Wildcats. Junior right side hitter, Jenny Manz led the Gators with 12 kills and a .417 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Jenni Keene also had a big night offensively with nine kills to go along with her nine digs on the night.
The Wildcats return to action Monday when they host the USA “A” Team at UK’s Memorial Coliseum. The exhibition match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
