(On South Carolina)
“South Carolina is a good football team. They’re a little bit like us. They play very hard. They’ve lost their free safety like we did. They have some good personnel on the defensive end. Their corners play well. They don’t give up a lot of long balls.”
(On the running game at Arkansas)
“We found three times in the game that we thought we didn’t make the right cut. Arkansas is extremely good against the run and we just did not play well.”
(On the 18 penalties against Arkansas)
“I wish we hadn’t gotten so many penalties. But, penalties are a product of aggression and youth. We had 18 and Arkansas had 12. Sometimes you get a lot of flags and sometimes you don’t. I’m not going to worry about it. Football is a collision sport and an emotional game. If I’m going to err, it’s going to be on the side of aggression. It’s not going to be on the side of holding back.”
(On the play of the U.K. captains, Tim Couch and Jeff Snedegar, against Arkansas)
“The captains really stepped up their level of play. I really appreciate the way they’re responding. They kept us in the game. We needed them to step up and they really did. I thought our backs played well. They did a great job.”
(On the South Carolina offense)
“Their offense looks like they’re trying to adapt to a new scheme. They had a touchdown called back last week. That would’ve been a big difference in the game.”
(On the emotions after the Arkansas loss)
“I’m going to be interested to see how they respond today. I thought we took the Florida loss pretty hard. I haven’t talked to our players yet. There were a lot of wet eyes in that locker room on Saturday. A lot of players were upset. We felt like we let it get away.”
(On Tim Couch)
“Tim’s such a great player because he loves the game. He never gets tired of practice. He never gets tired of watching film and he never gets tired of playing. That’s what you look for when you’re recruiting.”
(On the building of the Kentucky program)
“We’re still building this thing. We haven’t arrived yet. I hope it means something to our fans that we’re getting more respect as a program. I know the fans are proud of our kids. They play courageously. It’s nice to have the ESPN folks talking nice about you. To us, it doesn’t mean a lot if we don’t win. I do believe there’s a different attitude towards us in the conference.”
(On the running game)
“The running game is the third thing we want to do. If they’d held us to 200 yards and no points or something, I’d say it was really important. But they held us to 507 yards and 20 points. The first thing we try to do is throw short. The second thing we try to do is to throw deep. The third thing we try to do is run. We’re doing the first two pretty good. The third, we’re not doing very well right now. It’s important, but it’s the third thing we try to do. I credit Arkansas. They were determined to take the running game away and they did.”
