DiGiuro Fundraiser Set for Sunday: The friends and family of former University of Kentucky football player Trent DiGiuro will have a fundraiser at Churchill Downs on Sunday, May 24, to benefit the Trent DiGiuro Scholarship Fund. The scholarship was created in 1994 following the death of DiGiuro, who was an offensive lineman for the Wildcats football team.

The sky terrace at Churchill Downs has been reserved for the day. Admission to the event is $20 per person and covers admission to Churchill, a reserved seat in the terrace, and a program. During the day, one of the races will be named in honor of DiGiuro and a trophy will be awarded to the winner of the race. The organizers plan to make this an annual event.

Proceeds from the event will be added to the endowment of the scholarship fund. The scholarship is awarded each year to a Wildcat walk-on (non-scholarship) player, student manager, or student trainer who exemplifies the dedication and leadership shown by DiGiuro. DiGiuro, from Goshen, Ky., was a walk-on for the Wildcats who had worked his way into a starting position.

The previous winners of the scholarship have been invited to attend. The scholarship honorees have included kicker Brent Claiborne (1995), trainers Andrew Cline (1996) and Patrick Sininger (1997), and linebacker Stephan Walters (1998).

Tickets may be purchased by calling Matt Blandford at 502-893-7511.
