The Kentucky football team began its second week of spring practice Monday afternoon at the Nutter Training Center.
The Wildcats practiced for two hours in helmets, jerseys, and shorts. The team also spent time in film study, reviewing the team’s first scrimmage of the spring last Saturday.
One of the highlights of the scrimmage was an interception by sophomore-to-be Kenneth Grant, who is being tried at strong safety after having played running back during the 1997 season. Safeties coach Darrell Patterson is pleased with the progress made by Grant. “I’m very pleased with Kenneth’s progress. He is seeing something new every day on defense and he’s learning something new every day,” Patterson said. “He’s got football instincts and I can see some things in Kenneth’s play that will help the team improve its overall performance. He’s definitely going to get an opportunity this season.” “Switching over to defense was to help the team,” Grant said. “I feel my speed, my toughness and my hitting ability are my strongest points and they are things that will better help the defensive side of the ball this season.”
The Wildcats resume practice Wednesday at 2:20 p.m. at the Nutter Training Center. The team’s next scrimmage is Saturday at 11 a.m. at Commonwealth Stadium. The Blue/White Spring Game, which is the conclusion of spring practice, will be Saturday, April 25 at 7 p.m.
