UK Coach Hal Mumme:
On the status of Jonas Liening and Anthony White:Jonas Liening is going to be day-to-day the rest of the year. Theres not any way you can have that injury and not be that way. He did look good in rehab. Weve got a brace for him and hes comfortable in that. The week off also helped Anthony White. Hopefully hell be ready on Saturday.
On DB Willie Gary:
Were very pleased with Willie Garys play. Hes a true freshman and to step up and play as good as hes played means he has a bright future in this league.
On IU QB Jay Rodgers:
Jays a real good player. I think hes much like Tim Couch. Hes a sophomore that got to play some last year. I know the high school program hes from in Texas and its a great one. I think hes going to be a major force in the Big Ten in the future. Its going to be an honor to play him this weekend.
On the Kentucky defense:
Were 27th in the nation. I think the defense is playing above expectations. Im pleased with our defense. For having to move a lot of folks around, not having a lot of guys back, and playing a lot of young players our defense is playing well. Theyve played well enough for us to win the Louisville game and I thought they played well enough for us to win the Mississippi State game.
On Indiana:
I think theyve done a good job of learning the offensive scheme. Cam Camerons staff has obviously done a good job of teaching. They have an aggressive blitzing style defense, and theyve seemed to have picked that up pretty well. Offensively, they look kind of like us. They are a ball control, passing team and theyre doing that very well.
On the Indiana/Kentucky rivalry:
We havent talked about it that much. Thats not something we talk about with them a whole lot. We just never have at the places Ive been. We didnt talk about that with Louisville or Mississippi State. We try to get them to focus on doing their job. Theyll get ready to play the game. Theyve had a week off and I know theyre anxious to get back to it.Rivalries are something that develop over the years. Its probably more important to the fans and the media then it actually is with the players. For our players, it is an important game. Its the only game they get to play this week.
SS Tremayne Martin:
“The off-week came at a good time. We were a little banged up and it gave us a chance to get healthy. We took the opportunity to polish some things last week. We had made a lot of mental errors against Mississippi State. Coach wrote them (the errors) on the board and we went out and walked through them to make corrections. The defense wants to be out on the field. We want to make the big plays to give the ball back to the offense.
CB Littleton Ward:
“Indiana is going to be ready to play this weekend. We just have to stay poised and believe in what we are doing. The bye week is over, so we have to get back to work. Indiana has a solid offense. We’re going to study the film because we know they are going to be ready. But we’re going to be ready, too. They’re probably going to pull out all the stops, similar to teams in the SEC. They have a quarterback who threw for 400 yards, so at this level, we have to be ready for anything.
WR Kevin Coleman:
On game versus Indiana:”I am looking forward to this week’s game. Last week there was a lesson for us to be learned because we weren’t used to seeing blitzes as much. I think we can expect a lot out of Indiana and what we learned in practice last week has prepared us for the game this week.”
