Kentucky men’s tennis has officially announced that former Wildcat student-athlete, Carey Rubin will be re-joining the program as an assistant coach ahead of the 2023-24 school year.

Rubin, who played at Kentucky from 2005-2006, will be working alongside head coach Cedric Kauffmann and assistant Matthew Gordon on the coaching staff.

“Kentucky tennis has basically been my life since I played here,” Rubin said. “I want to thank Cedric [Kauffmann] and Matt [Gordon] for this opportunity. The tradition of Kentucky tennis has been so strong, and now we’re a national powerhouse. [As a coach] one of my main goals is to get the best out of every student-athlete and help the program continue to compete for championships.”

A native of Dayton, Ohio, Rubin previously served as a volunteer coach at UK in 2011 when the Wildcats reached the NCAA quarterfinals before falling to eventual national champion, USC. Rubin returned as a volunteer coach once again last fall.

Following his collegiate playing career, Rubin spent two years playing professionally. He then began working as a hitting partner and traveling coach with some of the top players on the WTA Tour including Grand Slam winners, Venus Williams and Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Olympic Gold Medalist, Monica Puig and NCAA Singles Champion, Peyton Sterns.

“We are very excited for Carey [Rubin] to join our staff,” Kauffmann said. “He will do a tremendous job with the guys on the team and he is all in for us to continue our success at Kentucky.”
