LEXINGTON, Ky. – Multiple Kentucky track and field athletes will compete this weekend in search of the national top-16 performances necessary to qualify for next weekend’s NCAA Indoor Championships.

Athletes who own a time/mark, which ranks inside the national top-16, and relay teams with top-12 times, qualify for the NCAA Championships to be held in at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark., on March 8-9.

The Wildcats will travel to “last chance meets” in South Bend, Ind., Ames, Iowa and Blacksburg, Va.

On Friday the action will take place at the Alex Wilson Invitational inside the Loftus Sports Center on the Notre Dame campus. The women’s distance medley relay team of Chelsea Oswald, Allison Peare, Morganne Phillips and Cally Macumber will race on Friday at 7:45 p.m. ET.

Macumber and Oswald both own 3,000-meter times, which currently rank in the national top-10.

Brad Szypka sits on the verge of the top-16 as he owns the No. 17 shot put in the nation this season with a personal-record mark of 18.83 meters/61’9.5″. The current “last throw in” went an inch further.

Szypka missed medaling at the SEC Championships a week ago by one place.

Keith Hayes, who finished just one spot off the medal stand at the nation’s top conference meet last weekend, currently owns the 19th-ranked 60-meter hurdles time in America.

Allison Peare ran a season-best time of 2:06.45 in the SEC 800 meters final, a time which ranks No. 21 nationally, .21 seconds behind No.16.
