LEXINGTON, Ky. – The eighth-ranked University of Kentucky men’s tennis team will play its final two home matches of the 2013 season, as the Wildcats will welcome in No. 5 Ohio State and Murray State to Lexington for a doubleheader slated to start at 2:00 p.m. ET at the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Center.
In addition to this being the final home matches of the season for UK, this will also serve as the Wildcats final non-conference matches of the season before UK returns to SEC action on Saturday afternoon in Nashville against Vanderbilt.
This will be Kentucky’s eighth time this season facing off against a team ranked in the top-10 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. The Wildcats hold a 4-3 record in their previous seven matches against top-10 teams with wins over Mississippi State, Georgia, Oklahoma and Ole Miss.
The opener of the doubleheader will be at 2:00 p.m. ET as UK takes on the Buckeyes with doubles play beginning at the top of the hour. The Wildcats lost to the Buckeyes in the ITA National Indoor Championships a year ago, as well as in their lone regular-season meeting, and will be looking to turn the tide in their favors tomorrow afternoon. The Buckeyes are currently ranked fifth in the rankings, a four-spot jump from the previous weeks’ rankings.
The home season will conclude on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. as Kentucky will take on in-state foe Murray State. The Racers are currently 0-13 on the season and 0-4 in Ohio Valley Conference action.
Schedule Change
Head coach Cedric Kauffmann announced on Tuesday afternoon that the Wildcats will take on No. 14 Vanderbilt on Saturday, April 6 at Noon ET. This is a change, as the initial schedule had the match listed for Friday, April 5.
