LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky rifle’s Henri Junghänel took Gold in the 50m Rifle Prone Men event at the 2013 International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup in Changwon, Korea, the first World Cup event of the year in the 10 rifle and pistol Olympic events.

The senior from Breuberg, Germany, used a dominant final to claim the gold medal, scoring 209.6 points in 20 shots, averaging greater than 10.4 points per shot. The United States’ Michael McPhail finished in second with a 207.4 in the final.

“I am very excited for Henri,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “It is a great way to kick off the new World Cup season. He has worked very hard this season and it is great to see the hard work paying off for him. I’m very proud that he is a member of our team.”

Junghänel led Kentucky to a second-place finish at the 2013 NCAA Championships while winning the silver medal in smallbore and finishing seventh overall in air rifle.

The senior delivered a record-breaking performance early in the season in a win over No. 4 Army. Junghänel set the program records for individual aggregate score (1186) and individual smallbore score (592).

With Junghänel leading the team in smallbore and air rifle scoring average, Kentucky claimed its sixth Great America Rifle Conference regular-season title this year, and third in as many years. Junghänel boasted a 588.3 scoring average in smallbore and 592.9 in air rifle.

He plans to compete in the next ISSF event in May in Fort Benning, Ga.
