SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team completed the first tournament of the season with a fifth-place finish at the Northern Intercollegiate, as the final round wrapped up Sunday afternoon at Rich Harvest Farms.
After a great first round of play, Rich Harvest Farms proved to be a tough matchup for the Wildcats during the final two days, who finished at 19-over (883) for the tournament. UCF took home first-place with a score of two-over (866).
“We hung in there today and gave ourselves a chance to have a good round,” said Kentucky head coach Brian Craig. “We showed what we are capable of this week, but have many areas where we need to improve. It is time to get to work and prepare for Wolf Run. Congratulations to David Snyder for a solid event with two terrific rounds.”
Coming into the final round, Snyder was sitting in good position in second place at five-under. However, the Somerset, Ky., native struggled on the final day posting a six-over 78. Snyder finished in a tie for ninth at one-over (217).
Stephen Powers, a senior, had a third round of three-over 75 to finish his weekend. The senior finished tied for 12th at two-over (218) overall.
Senior Ben Stow finished tied for 20th at five-over (221) for the tournament after a third round of four-over 76.
The best round of the day went to senior Cody Martin who recorded a one-under 71. He regrouped after posting back-to-back 76’s during the first two rounds. For the tournament, he finished seven-over (223) and tied for 24th.
Sophomore Harrison Greenberry finished the tournament with his best round of the weekend. Greenberry had an even-par round of 72 Sunday afternoon and finished at nine-over (225) overall, which put him in a tie for 33rd.
Rounding out the Wildcat participants, junior Will Bishop tied for 47th at 12-over (228) for the tournament. Bishop had a third round score of four-over 76.
Kentucky is back in action when the team travels to Zionsville, Ind., for the Wolf Run Invitational held Sept. 21-22 at the Wolf Run Golf Club.
